My name is Viki Berg. I’m a Ukrainian artist living in Berlin, Germany as of now, due to the full-scale invasion. My focus is the textile media, particularly through tufting, which I approach with a contemporary art perspective. In my work, I seek to challenge traditional preconceptions of textile art as a purely “feminine” and applied craft by transforming techniques such as weaving into an artistic endeavor. I investigate issues of culture, identity, and the impact of propaganda and mass culture on society. Textiles serve as vessels for both personal and collective traumas—those that are inherited. For me, my work is an act of healing, reconceptualising the heritage, and striving to forge a candid, caring conversation with the past and present.
